Folk block road; pray Court to not grant bail to murder accused

Imphal, June 13 2022:
A number of women and family members of late Arambam Nanao blocked the road in front of Cheirap Court complex for a few minutes when the bail hearing of the murder accused SI Thokchom Jitendro (41) was going on this afternoon.
The protesters demanded that the accused should not be granted bail under any circumstances.
On getting information about the bail application filed by Thokchom Jitendro Singh, s/o (L) Gopal of Heinoukhongnembi Thokchom Leikai before the Session Court Imphal West, a large number of womenfolk and family members of the deceased jeweller gathered at the Cheirap court complex and staged a protest demonstration.
Further, the womenfolk blocked one side of Uripok Kangchup Road in front of Cheirap Court for a few minutes.
The road was opened after the police intervened.

APP of the State and the defence counsel were also present at the Court during the bail hearing while the SDPO Imphal submitted a prayer to fix another date for bail consideration.
The APP submitted that the case requires trace level analysis but there is no facility to conduct the same at the laboratory of Forensic Science Laboratory at Pangei while the expert opinion is still not received.
The Court heard both the parties and gave a consent to the prayer of the IO.
Wife of the deceased Arambam ongbi Teresa also appeared before the Court and pleaded the Court to not release SI Jitendro Singh under any circumstances.
The Court told the wife of the deceased about the opportunity to engage a legal counsel of her own to assist the prosecution if she desires so and accordingly put up the matter for hearing on June 27 .
The bail application was filed by the accused through his counsel on June 2 and fixed today for hearing.
Arambam Nanao died on May 2 at around 4 pm after he was pulled up by a team of Imphal Police Station who came in a civil dress from Sagolband Kangabam Leikai, following which SI Th Jitendro surrendered himself before the police on May 3 .
The accused is currently in judicial custody at Manipur Central Jail at Sajiwa. Meanwhile, the same Court has vacated the inquiry order it passed on May 4 .
The inquiry order mentioned that no transfer of posting should be made to any police personnel posted at Imphal Police Station until the inquiry report is completed to enable the Magistrate to conduct and record statements of the witnesses smoothly.
The order said that the mortal remains of the deceased should not be cremated or disposed of until necessary inquiry is completed.
