Phase 1 of National Deworming Day-2025 launched

Health Services director Dr Chambo Gonmei has appealed to the public to extend support to protect children from parasitic worm infection, so that India can become a healthy nation.
He gave the clarion call during launch of the state level first round National Deworming Day 2025 at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya, Lamboi Khongnangkhong organised by National Health Mission (NHM), State Health Society Child Health Division and Directorate of Health Services on Thursday.
Dr Chambo informed that in the first round 9,91,696 children aged 1 to 19 years will be administered deworming tablets free of cost in all districts and blocks of the state.

Pointing out children are being administered deworming tablets since launch of the National Deworming Day on February 10, 2015 by the central government to improve children's health, nutritional status, and cognitive development, the director maintained that the day is held nationwide to reduce the harm caused by soil transmitted helminths (STH), raise awareness on protection and treatment from worm infections and highlight the importance of deworming, hygiene and sanitation.
Mentioning that a mop up round will be carried out on March 20 for children who missed the first phase, Dr Chambo urged teachers, students, parents and all sections of the society to attend and contribute their mite for fruition of the campaign.
The launch programme was also attended by Family Welfare Services director Dr N Hemantakumar Singh, Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam Singh, NHM State mission director Dr M Dinesh Singh and Education (S) additional director Kh Bishesh-war as presidium members.
Chandel district also launched the first round of National Deworming Day on Thursday at Japhou Upper Primary School.
The programme organised by District Health Society (DHS), Chandel was attended by deputy commissioner Laishram Nandakumar Singh as chief guest and CMO Dr Joyson Matthew Monsang as functional president, while Chandel ZEO Yumnam Hem-chandra Singh, Chandel ADC inspector of schools Mina Nula and ICDS Cell supervisor Martha Saka were guests of honour.
As a component of the programme, the presidium members along with teachers and staff from ICDS and Health Department administered Albendazole tablets to the eligible students.
On the other hand, Kakching district administration in collaboration with District Health Society (DHS), launched the first round of the district-level National Deworming Day 2025 on the sidelines of the observance of the World Heart Day at Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM), Public Health Centre, Serou, Kakching district on Thursday.
The programme was attended by Kakching DC Rohit Anand as chief guest and Kakching CMO Dr Thaodem Rajen Singh as president, while DHS, Kakching NPNCD DNO Dr Takhellambam Jullon Singh and Kshetrimayum Gourababu Singh were guests of honour.
Children aged 1-2 years were administered one tablet of Albendazole 200 mg, while those between 2-19 years were given one tablet of Albendazole 400 mg during the event.

THOUBAL: DHS, Thoubal launched the first round of National Deworming Day-2025 at Kangasenbi Upper Primary School, Thoubal Achouba Pakhangkhong Leirak on Thursday DHS, Thoubal chairman and DC Ahanthem Subhash Singh as chief guest and CMO Dr Y Nokul as president, while ZEO Zone-III, Thoubal Arambam Anilkumar, District Hospital medical superintendent Dr W Ruhinikumar, ICDS Cell, Thoubal district programme officer N Paran-go and Thoubal Municipal Council Ward No 9 caretaker councillor W Ibochouba were guests of honour.
ASHA and Anganwadi Centre workers, and Health Department staffers also attended the event during which deworming tablets were distributed for the health centres concerned.
It may be mentioned that out of 9,91,696 children from 16 districts aimed to be covered in the first round, 84,140 are from Thoubal district.
Deworming tables would be administered in 947 Anganwadi Centres, 219 government schools and 102 private schools in the district.
