Imphal, November 12 2015:
After showcasing Manipur's unique ethnic wear around the world, Imphal based stylist Robert Naorem is set to take the global fashion market by storm with his creations.
Announcing his venture during a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, Robert said he and eight of his childhood friends have come together to open an e-commerce retail outlet named "Our City Market" at Imphal's commercial hub of Nagamapal for selling his collections and other items, and launched its online shopping website "ourcitymarket.in" .
Robert, who is a well known face in India as well as in international fashion circuits as a designer, make-up artist and stylist, has so far been concentrating on highlighting the State's fabrics and patterns in fashion extravaganzas in India and abroad.
The company will sell both men's and women's trendy apparels with focus on Manipur's fabrics and their unique designs and patterns, that will perfectly suit the global fashion trend.
"I have been going around the world taking Manipur's ethnic collections.
Now I have decided to market Manipur's handloom products around the world and I am hoping that my creations will find markets," Robert said.
Robert has been in the beauty industry for the last one decade and he has worked with the who is who of India's fashion world.
India's top models including Miss World runner-up Parvathy Omnakuttan and foreign models have come to Imphal and walked the ramp in Manipuri attires.
One of the events paid tributes to Manipuri weavers, he added.
"My dream is to take Manipuri handloom products to the forefront of the world's fashion circuit so that our weavers can benefit.
My vision is to sell our handloom products outside the country.
I want to contribute something in bringing change in the Manipuri society," Robert said.
Robert went on to say that his creations are not only for the sake of fashion extravaganzas but also for generating job avenues for the State's weavers.
"I will sell my creations world wide online and will use Manipur's famed Rani fee, Wangkhei fee etc.
for trendy apparels wearable by any one around the globe," Robert said.
He, however, explained that he would need 20 more days to go online.
Along with Robert's collections Our City Market is also selling all kinds of household and grocery items online or through telephone calls or texting.
"Right now our service covers Imphal Municipal limit only.
Anybody can get in touch with us and we will deliver the items at the customer's doorstep.
We are selling the items below the Maximum Retail Price," Rex Thokchom, one of the company members said.
