Rape accused remanded to judicial custody

Imphal, September 12 2019:
Special Court, POCSO, Imphal West remanded one Tayenjam Netrajit (36) s/o Mani of Wangoi Leiphrakpam Mayai Leikai to judicial custody till September 26 in connection with the sexual assault case of a physically challenged minor.
He was produced before the Court by a team of Women PS, Imphal West, today following his completion of five days police remand, along with a prayer for further judicial custody for smooth investigation of the case.
The IO of the case submitted that on September 7, the mother of the victim lodged a complaint stating that one afternoon in the month of March this year, her daughter was sexually assaulted by the accused who also threatened her daughter with dire consequences if she informed anyone of the incident.
However, on September 6, the victim narrated the whole incident, the mother claimed, and hence a case was registered and the house of the accused was raided by a police team.
Even though he was not initially found, Netrajit was eventually handed over to women PS in connection with the case after he was arrested by Wangoi PS and taken into five days police custody remand.
The IO further submitted that during the police custody period, the accused disclosed that he, along with father of the victim and two other people, had consumed alcohol at the residence of the victim and taking the advantage of the situation, he had sexually assaulted the minor, and prayed for remanding the accused in judicial custody.
The Court, after going through the case record and hearing the submission of the IO, remanded the accused in judicial custody till September 26 .
