Imphal, February 12 2022:
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) celebrated its 29th Foundation Day on Saturday at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall.
Addressing the gathering, AMUCO president Nando Luwang said that he is suspicious that Meira Paibi are presently being used to protect candidates contesting election or in hghting for election among innocent people rather than using their mind and strength in protecting territorial integrity of Manipur.
Since AMUCO was formed with the main objective of protecting unity and integrity of Manipur and also to bring harmony among all the people residing in the state since time immemorial, it continues to fight and challenge any forces which work contradictory to its objectives, Nando said.
According to Nando Luwang, it is akin to fishing in desert for some indigenous communities of Manipur who have fallen into the trap of India's mischief and are beginning to work timidly for their own communities.
AMUCO will never remain silent and respond fittingly and accordingly if such communities continue to work against general interest of the people of Manipur, he said, adding that AMUCO fully understands repeated attempts made by Government of India to distort territorial integrity of Manipur and AMUCO has been and will continue to fight against such divisive agenda.
Expressing concern over the manner in which Meira Paibi are being utilised in election related activities, the AMUCO president expressed suspicion if the strength of Meira Paibi is being utilised in a wrong way through a secret policy of India.
Stressing the need to discuss the matter by paying special attention, Nando Luwang said that Government of India's attempt to distort territorial integrity of Manipur was very clear in the year 1993 but people of Manipur fittingly confronted the diabolic scheme and made the same useless.
In the elections held in Manipur before 1993, Meira Paibi never protected candidates or sat in front of their residential gates.
However, Meira Paibi members are seen protecting candidates by guarding them nowadays and hence it would be right to discuss such undesired activities seriously.
It is hard to bring unity among the people who were divided during election time and hence weakens unity of people during the time of movements concerning big issues of the people, Nando said.
Representatives of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup and AMUCO advisor Ito Tongbram also attended the event.
The gathering paid tributes to departed members and volunteers of AMUCO by observing two minutes' silence.
