Governor, CM, others greet on Nupi Lal Day

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya extended his heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of 'Nupi Lal' day, which would be observed on Thursday.
In a release, Governor Prasad said that every year, 12th December is observed as 'Nupilal Numit', as a tribute to the courage, sacrifices and patriotism of the women of Manipur.
He continued that it is quite befitting to remember those Manipuri women who fought against the oppressive economic and administrative policies of Manipur Maharaja and the then British Government in Manipur in the year, 1939.He then urged the people of Manipur to follow the path of the brave Manipuri mothers who stood up against injustice and fought for their rights for a prosperous and peaceful state, while wishing the celebration of "Nupilal Day" a grand success.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh also extended his heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur especially women and mothers on the occasion of Nupi Lal Numit.
He said that Nupi Lal Numit is held every year across the state to celebrate the power of women's voice in the society.
Nupi Lal was a series of protests and boycotts carried out by our brave mothers against the British imperialists, demanding immediate stoppage of rice exports which had triggered an artificial famine in the state, he recalled.
The CM then said that the present day women of Manipur have inherited the courage and patriotism of the brave and fearless mothers of the olden days.
"Our women folk have been playing a vital role in many social movements and continue to lead from the forefront to maintain the social fabric.
Many women from the state are now holding key posts in various government and private institutions, making their contribution felt in nation building," he remarked.
Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, Education minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh; IPR minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh; and Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MANIDCO) chairman MLA Kongkham Robindro also extended their warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Nupilal Day on Thursday.
