International Day of the Girl Child observed at children home

The District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal and Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Litanpok jointly observed the International Day of the Girl Child today sponsored by Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) .
The observation ceremony was held at the conference hall of Children Home for Girls, Thoubal Wangmataba which is being run by the Women's Income Generation Centre.
Notable dignitaries present at the event include Councillor Thiyam Sangeeta Devi, Councillor, TMC Ward No 14; Oinam Indira Devi, founder and secretary, WIGC Thoubal and Lembisana Meidingu, Panel Advocate, DLSA Thoubal.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Lembisana Meidingu spoke in detail about "Right to Speech, Right to Education, Child Labor, Child Trafficking, Child Marriage Act, POSCO Act" .
She encouraged the girls to call toll-free number 1098 or approach police stations, DLSA, Thoubal or Legal Aid Clinics if they are placed in any dangerous or suspicious situations.
Thingujam Arunkumar Singh, Para Legal Volunteer, Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpoki shared that the ceremony was held under the theme "Girls' vision for the future" to provide awareness to the girls at the children home on various issues to help them protect themselves.
Meanwhile Oinam Indira highlighted the importance of vocational education for the children staying at the Home and the duties of women and the jobs they can take up to achieve financial independence.
Former Councillor of TMC Ward No 14 T Arun also joined the celebration.
Snacks, gifts and other consumables were distributed to all 52 girls at the Home.
