Students press demand for ILP enforcement

Demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State at the earliest taking into due consideration of the rampant influx of non-locals, more than 500 students of Manipur College, Singjamei Chingamakha took out a protest rally here today.
Women folks who were staging a sit-in-protest at Singjamei Chingamakha Keithel to the same demand also joined the rally and they chanted slogans such as 'Implement ILP system in the State', 'Save indigenous people', 'Long live Manipur', 'We condemn beating of student protesters', etc while heading towards the Chief Minister bungalow with VDF personnel following them.
As the rally was inching towards the Chief Minister's bungalow, the protestors were stopped near Loklaobung Bridge by a large number of security personnel deployed in the area already.
There, a confrontation between the protesters and police personnel broke out.
The confrontation lasted for around one hour.
However, there were no reports of untoward incidents like police firing tear gas shells and students pelting stones at the police.
Later, the protesters were forced to return back up to Manipur College by police personnel.
On the other, an attempt made by students of Oriental College, Takyel to take out a protest rally up to Khwairamband Market to press the demand for enforcement of ILP system in the State was foiled by police.
In support of the ongoing public movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State to save the indigenous people from the rapid influx of outsiders, women folks of nine localities of Singjamei constituency also jointly staged a sit-in-protest at Singjamei Parking here today.
During the protest, the women folks including vendors of Singjamei Market demanded resignation of all 60 MLAs if they fail to implement the system at the earliest.
A massive sit-in-protest was also staged jointly by women folks and business communities of Governor Road and Paona Bazar at Paona International Market.
Similar protest was also witnessed at Singjamei Chingamakha Market.
The protest was organized by Model Club in collaboration with Singjamei Chingamakha Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup.
In connection with the ILP demand, sit-in-protests were staged staged at Mayang Imphal Rangoon; Sekmaijin Market; Poubakchou Market; Moidangpok; Keithelmanbi; Konthoujam Market; Nambol Chingmang; Lamboi Mayai Leikai; Luwangsangbam Mayai Leikai; Mantripukhri; Kongpal Iranpham Thongkhong and Thambalkhong Ima Market.
Several placards reading, 'Implement ILP in the State', 'Check entry of non-locals', 'Do not let non-locals rule the State' etc, were used at the protest demonstrations.
Sit-in protests were also held at Thoubal Athokpam Khunou and Thoubal Charangpat area today to press the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in Manipur.
Athokpam Khunou Meira paibu Lup organised the protest at Dist Hospital (Opposite), while Charangpat Maning Leikai Meira Paibi Lup staged the sit-in at Charangpat Maning Leikai Imoinu Keithel.
Protesters shouted slogans demanding immediate implementation of ILP system in the state.
A woman participant stated that the demand is not against entry of outsiders, but it is for identifying the entrants and establishing their purpose of visit to the state.
