Manipuri Dance, Music fest begins in Mumbai

Imphal, March 11 2015: A two-day Festival of Manipuri Dance and Music began on Wednesday evening at Nehru Centre Auditorium, Mumbai.

According to a press note, on the first day, a strong team of 30 members, JNMDA performed different items including Lai Haraoba.

The Festival jointly organised by JNMDA, a constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi New Delhi and Nehru Centre Mumbai is dedicated to the two legendary figures of Indian Dance - Dr.Savita N Mehta, a scholar and exponent of Manipuri dance and Sitara Devi, Kathak maestro.

It may be recalled that JNMDA Imphal is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee Celebrations from April 2014 to April 2015. The ongoing two-day festival is 15th function of the Celebrations.

On the second day of the Festival on Thursday, the artistes of the JNMD Academy will present the Dance Drama Shakuntala of MahaKavi Kalidas which is choreograph and directed by W Lokendrajit Singh.
