Meet resolves to recommend State Official Languages Commission

A consultation meeting on Status of the Tribal & Endangered Languages of Manipur was organized by Tribal & Endangered Languages Promotion Board (TELPB) at Amity Hall of Adimjati Shiksha (ASA), Chingmeirong today and unanimously resolved to recommend State Official Languages Commission.
The meeting was attended by advisory members of the board namely Rishang Keishing, ex-Chief Minister; RK Theko, ex-Minister; Mani Charanamei, ex-MP; Doukhomang Khongsai, ex-MLA; Dr Th Dilipkumar, Chairman of Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank and Kaikhangmang Daimei, retd Joint Director of Tribal Research Institute apart from leaders from different communities.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Th Chandramani who is also the convener of TELPB said that as per atlas report of UNESCO published in 2009, three indigenous languages of the State namely Tarao, Chakpa and Aimol had extinct from the State and based on the report, Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) under Ministry of Human Resource Development conducted a survey of tribal endangered languages in the State in 2010 during which it came to light that the three indigenous languages exist.
Stating that prompt measures to safeguard the indigenous languages from extinct have been initiated, he maintained that the TELPB was established to entrust with the responsibility to look after the indigenous languages.
