Govt plans to revive libraries for selected Higher Secondary Schools: Radheshyam

The State Government is planning to revive libraries for selected Government Higher Secondary Schools in the State, stated Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam.
Highlighting the importance of library, he said that it is not only important in terms of education but also in inculcating the habit of reading among the young minds.
The Minister was speaking as chief guest at the one day public awareness programme held in the memory of late Dr Huirongbam Atulchandra Singh for his contribution in establishing public library in Manipur at Library Conference Hall, Manipur University.
Radheshyam said that library stores knowledge in the form of book and resources.
The library acts as a source whenever one looks up for a record or information, he added.
Books, he added are the expressions of the experiences of one's life where the image of a society is reflected.
He also said creative writing should be motivated to build a momentum to popularize the literature.
He said that the probable decline in the habit of reading among the children could be because they are often pushed towards getting higher grades and passing the exam rather than encouraging them to enjoy what they read.
In case of students, Radheshyam emphasized that library play an important role in preparing the young minds for different challenges that would be thrown in their lives.He added that by reading and understanding the values of culture, custom and traditions, practices, one can reinstate harmony in diversity.
The Education Minister also urged for a concerted effort from every section of the society in uplifting the Government schools.
He said it is important that public should regard the school as their own and protect the school property.
The purest form of holiness is the school where children from different background gather- together to acquire knowledge; education and good behaviours, he added.
The programme was attended by Librarian, Manipur University of Culture, Thounaojam Khomdon Singh, retd Librarian, Manipur Public School, L Sobita Devi, Professors, officials concerned and students.
