Imphal, August 10 2020:
The Socio-Economic and Cultural Development Organisation (SEACDO) has stated that a series of unfortunate incidents that had taken place in Chandel district in the last few days show lack of seriousness of officials in fighting against this deadly virus.
A press release issued by SEADCO informed that an order of Deputy Commissioner Chandel dated August 3, 2020 invited posts for staff nurse and multi-tasking job for three months.
Saying that the interview was done on August 5 and 1COVID positive person attended the interview, it added that 7 selected candidates were also found to be COVID positive.
They are now lodged at COVID-19 Care Centre, JNV, Chandel, SEACDO said.
On August 7 last, one patient from Tarao Laimanai who tested negative on August 5 died at the hospital and was kept in an isolation ward.
On further testing, the deceased tested positive for COVID-19 .
The death body of the negative patient was kept at the Isolation ward where the positive patients are treated, which shows the carelessness and lack of seriousness in fighting against this deadly virus, it added.
Continuing that the Deputy Commissioner Chandel declared DC Lamkhai to Chandel Christian as a containment zone on August 9, SEADCO appealed to the concerned authority to distribute PMGKAY rice to non-ration card holders and migrants in the district, as movements have been restricted in the areas.
Inmates at COVID-19 Care Centre, JNV, Chandel, are also not taken care of properly, SEADCO said, urging the authorities concerned to look into the matter and provide necessary funds for smooth functioning of the centre.
