Imphal, June 10 2021:
Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) has slammed the Prime Minister, President and HRD minister for their alleged failure to appoint regular VCs for 20 universities in the country including Manipur University which are being administered by in-charges for a long period of time.
In a release, MPP vice president Dr S Ibomcha recalled that MHRD deputy secretary Pramod Kumar Shah on October 9, 2014 directed 39 central universities to appoint VCs, regular teachers and fill up vacant posts.
However, as HRD ministry restricted VC in-charges from filling up the vacant posts of teachers, officers and other regular staff, it has caused tremendous inconvenience.
After former MU VC AP Pandey was sacked from his post, retired IAS Jarnail Singh, Professor Amar Yumnam and Professor S Sanatombi have been appointed as VC in-charges of the varsity for three years.
DPC for appointing regular VC was held for two days, he pointed out, while informing that Delhi High Court had directed to take up necessary initiatives for appointing regular VC.
The HRD minister needs to clarify the reasons for not appointing regular VC of MU till now, he said.
MU could not be included in the ranking of Indian Universities because of all these issues and with its condition deteriorating in the last few years, MU seems to be existing only for namesake, Dr S Ibomcha lamented.
He then urged Manipur governor, chief minister, Rajya Sabha MP, Lok Sabha MPs to send letters to Prime Minister, President and HRD minister for appointing a regular VC of MU .
