Orientation course on criminal probe, cyber laws begins

A two-day orientation course on criminal investigation, criminal trial and cyber laws being organised jointly by Manipur Judiciary Academy and Manipur State Legal Service Authority commenced today at High Court of Manipur auditorium.
The orientation course was divided into two sessions.
In the morning session, Justice S Muralidhar of High Court of Delhi spoke on the topic "Criminal Investigation from Human Rights Perspective" .
He stressed on the conceptual frameworks, constitutional perspective, CrPC, Evidence Act, extraordinary laws, immunity and impunity and International laws.
Former ADGP A Romenkumar who is also an advocate of High Court of Manipur stated that if an inquiry discloses the commission of a cognizable offence then an FIR must be registered.
Dr Debarati Halder, advocate and managing director of Centre for Cyber Victim Counselling stated that cyber crimes against women are relatively new concept in the Indian legal arena.
She maintained that digital crimes or online crimes or crimes with the aid of the digital and communication technology is itself a new phenomena in India which became an alarming issue since recently.
In the evening session, Dr Debarati Halder stated that there are three major types of cyber offences depending on the nature of the victim.
Judges of High Court of Manipur, advocates and police officers attended the first day of the orientation course.
