Frequent looting of shops decried

Unhappy with the frequent looting of their shops, shopkeepers of the Paona International Market today staged a sit-in protest demanding deployment of more security personnel in the market area.
Shopkeepers of Paona International Market closed their shops for the day and staged a sit-in protest against the frequent lootings.
A day after goods worth around ' 1.3 lakh were looted from two shops on the night of June 8, another robbery took place last night in which mobile handsets worth around ' 10 lakhs were stolen.
122 mobile handsets, 60 Lemons, 18 Max, 30 LG, 47 Samsung and 27 Nokia belonging to a shop owned by Y Surjit of Uripok RIMS road were looted last night.
The thieves broke the padlock of the shop.
If such lootings are allowed to go on unabated, they will launch a protest against the state police department, shopkeepers taking part in the protest warned.
The protest was ended around 1 pm after the City Police OC gave an assurance that security in the area will be tightened up with immediate effect.
Shopkeepers of Paona Bazar and Paona International Market jointly submitted a representation to the Imphal West Senior SP demanding frequent patrolling in the said area during the night time.
