2012: A Good year for Manipur film industries

Manipur Film Industry is one of the leading establishments in the entire north east.
With the advent of filmmaking on digital format, the number of films produced in the State has increased significantly in the last decade.
According to a record obtained from Film Forum Manipur (FFM), in all 55 films directed by 45 directors were released in 2012 .
Kabui film "Banhathi Banhanam", Video film "Piranglakta Manglan Ama", science fiction "Mikap Thokpa", celluloid film "Japan Landa Imphal" are some of the films that have been reviewed by jury members of FFM.
Apart from that, the year 2012, also witnessed some of the hit films like "Western Sangkritan", "Inspector Yohenba", "Lal Leibak ta", "Lamjasara", "Boiton Mangkhre" etc.
Among the filmmakers L Prakash is at the top of the list with 6 films in his name and some of his films are super hits too while Bimol Phibou and Diya Khwairakpam directed in 3 movies each.
According to the datas provided by FFM, in the first three months of 2012, i.e., February, March and April, a total number of 7, 2 and 5 films were released respectively while in all 41 films were released in other eight months; namely, May (7), June (7), July (2), August (7), September (2), October (5), November (8) and December (3) .
Breaking the stereotype of looking at film industries as male bastion, Manipur film industry also witnessed 3 female film makers and 10 film producers last year.
Unlike preceding years, in 2012, movie goers also got the opportunity of watching and enjoying some unique movies like "Makar", based on Poknapham Daily's cartoon strips of the same name and "Ang Tamo", which centered around the struggle of Nupi Manbi community in the State with popular Shumang Leela artiste in female role Bishesh Huirem casting in the lead role.
"Piranglakta Manglan Ama" produced by Manipur State AIDS Control Society was another unique film that gives new hope to people living with HIV/AIDS in Manipur.
