Imphal, August 09, 2013:
With indigenous people in this society on the brink of becoming a minority in the land of their birth, the need to organize and bring the indigenous communities under one roof and the steps to be taken up in this regard have all been set, Indigenous Minorities Organisation Manipur (IMOM) has announced .
Speaking during a function held at the office of IMOM at New Checkon here today, Rengenson Thanga Chiru, Secretary of IMOM, said that there is a trend among the general population that since the minority sections of the society are less in number as compared to other sections of the society their voices should not be heard at all.
He further stated that in this present trend, there is the likelihood of the minorities not getting their rightful place.
As such, there is the need to organize all the minority groups into one and discuss the rights of the minorities as a whole and work for upliftment of this section.
We need to understand the manner in which the different minority sections of the society are living today.
It should be seen whether the customs and traditions of the minority sections are being well protected and preserved and to do the needful.
We also need to understand whether the larger community is respecting the minority community or not.
The function was also attended by Khupler Kom, President of IMOM; M Bapni Purum, Vice President of IMOM and its Joint Secretary Abhram Shaihar Kharam among others.
