Bishnupur, April 09 2019:
Campaigning for Congress candidate O Nabakishore, CLP leader and former Chief Minister O Ibobi on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP accusing its president Amit Shah of lying about the railway project in the region.
Speaking at a public meeting in Kumbi bazar, O Ibobi said that the railway line under construction to link Manipur with the rest of the country was planned by the UPA Government.
The foundation was laid by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, he said and refuted the claim of BJP National president Amit Shah that the railway project was 'envisioned/planned' by the late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He claimed that the proposed 12 kms long tunnel destined to be the longest railway tunnel in the world was shortened by 2 kms just after BJP came to power at the Centre.
He also accused BJP of doing only paint job to the already finished works of the previous Congress Government.
Alleging that the lies and deceit of the BJP are ever increasing when elections near, Ibobi urged people to be aware and conscious of the poll promise BJP has made in its manifesto.
"BJP in its manifesto has promised to bring back the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) to haunt the indigenous people of the North-East including Manipur.
Congress will never allow the Bill.
Vote for Congress for a secular Government," said Ibobi.
MPCC president Gaikhangam also accused the BJP of forcefully enforcing its ideas and philosophy on the people.
BJP is a threat to the 'unity in diversity' nature of India, he said and called for public support in uprooting BJP from the State.
The claim of the BJP that it will win North-East amidst the voices against Citizenship Amendment Bill is a sign of 'nervousness', he said.
Congress is fielding former Chief Secretary O Nabakishore from Inner Parliamentary Constituency.
The Inner PC will go to polls on April 18.Yesterday, Khangabok Block Congress Committee also organised a political conference where party leaders launched sharp attacks at BJP.
Speaking at the event at Basu Ground, Khangabok, MLA Ranjit said that Biren was once part of the Congress Government which some referred to as 'IRB- Ibobi, Ranjit, Biren'.
Go To Village and Go To Hills schemes have little meaning on ground, he said.
Former Chief Minister Ibobi said that he agrees with the accusation that Congress planted poisonous tree by enforcing AFSPA in Manipur.
But why is the BJP led Biren Government not uprooting the poisonous tree (AFSPA) even when there is BJP in the Centre too, he asked.
The State BJP accused the Congress of atrocities committed under the AFSPA, but the party (BJP) itself is extending the term of the Act, he said.
MPCC president Gaikhangam, TN Haokip, I Hemochandra, Mirabai, O Landhoni, Surjakumar and other party leaders attended the conference.
