National Handloom Day celebration continues

As part of the 5-day long celebration of 10th National Handloom Day, a seminar on the theme "Various schemes and campaigns of Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles and State Government schemes" was conducted today at Panthoibi Arcade in Wangkhei.
The 10th National Handloom Day celebration which began on Wednesday was organised by Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited in collaboration with the Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Manipur.
The seminar was attended by Weaver Service Centre Porompat, Deputy Director, Priyadarshi Daripa; Handloom & Textiles Manipur, Deputy Director (Handloom), Th Basanta; Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC), Imphal Head Office, Senior Assistant Director, Mutum Sanjeevkumar; and Handloom & Textiles Manipur, IAED, Jocelyn Akoijam along with a large number of weavers from across the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Th Basanta said that the seminar was conducted to make the weavers aware about the welfare schemes, insurance policies and projects initiated by the Central and State Governments.
He asserted that the State Government has recently launched the Chief Minister Yam Scheme to provide good quality yam at an affordable price to the people.
He continued that to promote local handloom and handicraft products, the State Government had issued an order to use indigenous products wherever possible in Government offices and institutes.
"Details about the welfare schemes & projects initiated by the Government may be had from the Head Office and District Handloom & Handicraft Offices", he added.
Further, Th Basanta appealed to the development executives of 31 handloom clusters to take an active role in spreading awareness about the welfare schemes and policy programmes for weavers.
