4th wave on in state, follow safety norms: Dr Rajo

Informing that the fourth wave of Covid-19 has arrived in the state, Health Services director Dr K Rajo has appealed to the public to follow Covid appropriate behaviour and contribute their mite in early containing of the contagion.
Addressing a press meet at the office of the Directorate of Health Services here on Friday, Dr Rajo said that 110 countries are facing the fourth wave of Covid-19 and it has reached the state too.
The fourth wave began in the state from the last week of June during which gradual increase in daily new cases was witnessed.
The state has reported 122 new cases from June 22 to July 7 out of which 25 have recovered.
As of Thursday, the numbers of Covid cases in different age groups are three in 0-5 years, nine in 6-15 years, four in 16-18 years, 91 in 19-60 years, and 55 in above 60 years group.
The recovery rate is 98.39 per cent, he said.
Dr Rajo further said that Omi cron variant of Covid 19 is highly transmissible but rarely severe.
In maximum of the cases, the virus can be neutralised before it infects the lungs.
However, people with co-morbid conditions need to take precautions as they might face more severe cases.
As of now, Imphal West has highest number of cases followed by Imphal East, Thoubal, Chandel, Kakching, Bishnupur, Ukhrul, Senapati and Churachandpur.
In terms of positivity rate, Chandel has the highest rate at 17 per cent.
Considering the surge in new cases, the public need to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
One should get their vaccine doses and follow Covid appropriate behaviour.
As of now, 62 per cent of the state's population has received the first dose and 53 per cent administered the second doses.
Vaccination rate has dropped significantly, which is a matter of concern, he said, while urging the public to get their vaccine shots.
The government is also taking up necessary measures including increased surveillance and contact tracing.
Health facilities including RIMS, JNIMS and district hospitals have been alerted.
However, the department will not initiate mass testing exercise as of now.
Covid testing is still going on at Manipur State Kala Akademi campus, Airport and RD Wing Lamphelpat as well as headquarters in other districts.
There is adequate supply of testing kits, oxygen and vaccine, he said.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (48832), Imphal East (30487), Thoubal (10167), Churachandpur (11057), Kangpokpi (3137), Tamenglong (3478), Bishnupur (9847), Senapati (2495), Ukhrul (3281), Kakching (6901), Chandel (2732), Noney (1161), Tengnoupal (1201), Jiribam (1111), Kamjong (1037), and Pherzawl (465).Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 44,276 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 30,973 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 5,20,825 tests per million population against the national average of 6,15,178 TPM.
Case fatality rate stands at 1.54 per cent and the recovery rate came down to 98.37 per cent.
The cumulative positivity rate stands 8.50 per cent.
