Senapati, January 08 2021:
A one-day awareness cum demonstration programme on coffee plantation was held at Senapati.
The program was organised by the Coffee Board of India in collaboration with Tsiibe Foundation, Senapati.
Jugindro Singh, member secretary, Khadi & Village Industry Board (KVIB) in his speech mentioned that the KVIB is trying hard to encourage coffee plantation in the State.
Although the KVIB does not get any allowance from the Govt, the board is trying its best to introduce coffee plantations in the hill districts of Manipur, he said and added that this cash crop (coffee) could be planted with other spices and plants.
Informing that a Coffee Board would purchase harvested coffee in the State to encourage the coffee growers, Jugindro maintained that encouraging such plantation would be a viable option to do away with poppy plantation.
The member secretary of KVIB also pointed out the need for setting up a cold storage facility at different places of the State to control food waste.
Miranda Sanjenbam, Extension Inspector, Coffee Board of India presented the prospects of coffee cultivation as the resource person and stated that coffee plantation can facilitate afforestation in the jhum lands.
The resource persons present also demonstrated ways to plant coffee healthily.
