Imphal, March 07 2020:
As pre-cautionary measures against coronavirus, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed to all the people to avoid mass gathering and reduce the scale of Yaoshang festival celebration.
As the 5-day Yaoshang festival includes playing with colours, Thabal Chongba, sports events and public functions which involve larger community gathering and people-to-people contact, the Chief Minister in his message advised that the people should take extra care during the festival as COVID-19 mainly spread from person to person through close contact and respiratory droplets produced when infected person coughs or sneezes.
Advising people to avoid larger gathering and reduce the scale of the celebration, he informed that the Government is taking all precautionary and preparatory measures to deal with any eventuality in the event of the coronavirus outbreak reaching the State.
Even though India has confirmed 31 COVID-19 cases, there is no confirmed case in the State so far.
