Cong decries 'immigrant' tag on NE people : Deputy CM Gaikhangam Demands Unconditional Apology

Imphal, February 07 2015 : Decrying the BJP's alleged faux pas of terming the people from the Northeast as 'immigrants' in its Vision Document related to Delhi polls, the Congress workers of the State held a sit-in at Congress Bhavan here on Saturday.

The protest demonstration organized by Manipur Youth Congress Committee was attended by the top functionaries of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) including Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Parliamentary Secretaries Md Amin Shah and Victor Keishing, and MLA Y Surchandra.

Deputy CM Gaikhangam Demands Unconditional Apology

Talking to media persons during the protest demonstration, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the BJP's 'immigrant' tag on the people from the Northeast in its Vision Document of Delhi Assembly Election was indeed very unfortunate.

"The blunder made by the BJP is dangerous.

Manipur has seen the June 18 incident just because of a blunder made by the then BJP-led NDA Government", Gaikhangam recalled.

"The people from the Northeast are already the victims of racial discrimination in Delhi and other metropolitan cities.

The 'immigrant' tag only shows the BJP's laxity in dealing with the issues of the Northeast", Deputy Chief Minister said while demanding the Prime Minister and other top leaders of the BJP to make an unconditional apology to the people on this issue.

Gaikhangam also said that the BJP's blunder has alienated the people of the Northeast.

Many northeasterners have now started looking for the Indian Embassy to get visa to travel to New Delhi.
