Imphal, October 05 2020:
The United Porompat Baruni Road Organisation (UPBRO) has asserted that the State will record 20,000 COVID positive cases by December, 2020 if the current rate of infections continues.
In a statement issued today, UPBRO also said that allowing shops in main markets to open up to 6 pm is inapt, considering that COVID situation is only worsening here.
On average, at least 250 to 300 new COVID cases are reported daily in the State since the past few days, the organisation said and added that relaxing the lockdown only for essential services would be beneficial for the public in the long run.
It also stated that the number of COVID positive cases changed abruptly from 6252 in September last to almost 12, 000 cases now, which is very alarming.
Meanwhile, UPBRO informed all shops under their jurisdiction (Porompat Chuthek to Baruni Chingkhong) to open from 6 am to 2 pm only.
It also said that collection of money by private banks has been restricted in the said areas.
