Anti human trafficking course in anvil, IGNOU observes its 24th Convocation

The 24th Convocation of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organized by the IGNOU Regional centre was held here at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.
158 students of IGNOU Regional Centre, Imphal, who have passed the MA, BA and PG Diploma courses in various disciplines were awarded certificates.
At the National level, the Convocation was graced by Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Dr D Purandeshwari and Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development and External Affairs, E Ahmad as the Chief Guest and President respectively.
Speaking at the function held at Hotel Imphal, Dr S Dilan, Regional Director, IGNOU, Imphal centre, said that IGNOU Regional centre Imphal was set up in November 2000 and started functioning in December 12 the same year.
Before this centre came up, students were given classes at the Shillong Regional centre.
The Centre began to celebrate the Convocation function in the state from 2007.This Regional centre has become an important place for distance learning and at the same time has been providing education to many government and non government employees and also to the students from far off places of the state.
He further went on to say that there are 30 study centres in the state.
The concern authority is planning to increase the number of study centres in the state to increase the outreach of IGNOU.
Apart from this, a special study centre is coming up at Sajiwa Jail.
Even specific programmes of the female inmates of Manipur Central jail is also in the pipeline.
He also said that Anti Human Trafficking Course, a new course under IGNOU, will be opened shortly.
