Imphal, July 05 2015 :
Raising pitch in its demand, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has announced for a 19-hour Manipur wide general strike beginning midnight of July 6, Monday.
At a press meet at the head office of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Keishamthong Top Leirak, JCILPS convenor in-charge Khomdram Ratan accused the State Government of neglecting the ILP movement.
"We want a proper law to safeguard the indigenous people against the increasing population of non-locals," he demanded.
He said that the government took the people for a ride by introducing the woefully inadequate Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants & Migrant Workers Bill, 2015 .
It rather aims to protect the non-locals instead of safeguarding the indigenous population, he said and demanded that the bill be withdrawn during the current Assembly Session.
He demanded that the Government take a firm decision on the 'five points' submitted by the JCILPS.
The committee has decided to call a 19-hour Manipur wide general strike to press its demand for ILP implementation, he said.
But he said media, electricity, water supply, medical and religious activities will be exempted from the purview of strike.
He warned of further intense agitation over the demand especially during the ongoing Assembly Session in the event of the Government's failure to fulfill the demands.
