Imphal, August 04 2015:
JCILPS Women Wing has strongly condemned police excesses meted out to the students who went to the Secretariat complex to surrender their books yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference held at Keishamthong, JCILPS Women Wing convenor Lourembam Nganbi said that many students were hospitalised in the police action.
She said that police not only violently twisted the hands of some students but also mercilessly dragged a girl student by the hair.
Nganbi further said that police must have knowledge about the punishment liable to be awarded under the existing laws of the land for assaulting a woman.
Yesterday's extreme action demonstrated by a police Inspector was a testimony that the State is being ruled through the power of police and army, she said.
She said that police violently dragged the students from one place to another and beat them up badly.
Urging the public to extend support to the 48-hour bandh clamped by JCILPS Student Wing, Nganbi also appealed to bandh supporters not to prevent movement of media persons and essential services personnel, persons related to religious activities and those who need medical treatment.
She also condemned police for resorting to baton charging peaceful women protesters who had formed human chain yesterday.
