NTC defies NSCN-IM ban

Dimapur, November 03 2013: Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has refused to be cowed down by censureship from certain quarters but reaffirmed to stand on its democratic principles to protect the rights of the Naga landowners.

The resolute outcome of the NTC was made known during the first introductory session-cum-interaction of its members held here on Friday.

Among other decisions, the NTC has reiterated to fight for the rights of landowners particularly in relation to exploration/exploitation of natural resources.

It was of the unanimous decision that landowners should be the first beneficiaries in the event of exploration of the natural resources.

The NTC has also taken upon the responsibility to look into the welfare of the minority community residing in Nagaland.

Furthermore, it has affirmed to work for gender equality in the Naga society.

It may be mentioned that the NSCN-IM has banned the newly floated NTC for what it called deliberate negation of the principle of the Naga Hoho and aspirations of the Nagas.

Meanwhile, following the alleged failure of the Nagaland Government to address its ultimatum served to the Chief Minister on October 10, the Eastern Naga Students Federation (ENSF) has decided to launch its first phase of agitation from November 5 .

The ENSF took the decision at an emergency meeting at its headquarters in Tuensang on October 31 .

The Federation, in a notification issued by its president Shahsha L Menhahu and general secretary Honang M Jessuhu, also resolved that the four districts of Eastern Nagaland, namely, Tuensang, Mon, Longleng and Kiphire will not cooperate with the directive issued by the State Government for compulsory contribution towards celebration of the 50th anniversary of Nagaland Statehood from all the employees within its jurisdiction.

It directed the departments concerned to strictly adhere to the directive.
