Imphal, October 03 2023:
Sagolband MLA RK Imo, in a letter addressed to the union home minister Amit Shah, conveyed appreciation to the Ministry of Home Affairs for its proactive approach in addressing critical issues affecting Manipur and urged for stringent legal actions against people involved in terror acts with foreign affiliations.
In his letter, RK Imo specifically hailed the swift decision to despatch a CBI team to supervise the murder case investigation, a measure that eventually led to the arrest of the accused persons from Churachandpur district.
He also extended his appreciation for the recent arrest by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of a person from Churachandpur for alleged link with foreign militant groups in Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Imo emphasised the necessity for taking up stringent legal actions against individuals involved in acts of terror, especially those with foreign affiliations, thereby reinforcing national security.
Drawing attention to the escalating concern of foreign terror organisations exploiting the current conflict in Manipur, the MLA underscored the need to eradicate such nefarious activities.
He pointed to recent reports indicating alleged links between Lien Gangte, the Canada Chap ter Head of North American Manipur Tribal Association (NAMTA), and Khalistani terror group in Canada.
Gangte's purported involvement in propagating separatist agendas and seeking external assistance was particularly worrisome, Imo said, while urging for a thorough investigation into this link and the subsequent initiation of legal proceedings against individuals or organisations spreading terror activities and supporting separatism through international platforms.
The MLA also appreciated the ministry for the extension of the deadline for detection of illegal immigrants until March 2024.However, he expressed concern about the potential lack of stringent checks at the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram.
Expressing concern over the reports suggesting the Mizoram government's reluctance to capture bio metrics for detecting illegal migrants, RK Imo said that such laxity could drastically impact the demography and overall security of the region.
To mitigate this, RK Imo urged the Home Ministry to ensure a thorough fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, similar to the ongoing efforts in Manipur.
This measure would help regulate the influx of illegal migrants and secure the region's demography, playing a vital role in preserving internal security, the MLA said.
RK Imo's letter also emphasised the necessity for continuous vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard the peace, security, and welfare of the indigenous population of Manipur.
He reiterated the Home Ministry's pivotal role in addressing these concerns and stressed the importance of collective efforts in fortifying national security and harmony within the region.
