Mass tree plantation will focus on nurturing saplings till maturity: Th Kirankumar

Director, Education Department, Thokchom Kirankumar stated that the main objective of mass tree plantation in line with commemoration of World Environment day, 2019 is to make sure that the saplings planted are nurtured properly till maturity.
Maintaining the above statement at his office chamber in SSA, Babupara today, he informed that the Education Minister will launch the mass tree plantation at the SK Ideal High School, Ngairangbam of Imphal West, Zone-1.As part of the programme, a target has been set to plant around 500 saplings at the premises of the said school, he said.
Stating that necessary preparations for the mass tree plantations are being carried out in full swing, he added that the mass tree plantation is aimed to achieve the target of planting more than 65,000 saplings in and around the educational institutions throughout the State.
The initiative is being taken up under the directive of Education Minister, Thokchom Radheshyam and in collaboration with Forest Department and All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) .
He said regular monitoring of the saplings will be tasked to the teachers and students of the educational institutions.
A survey for the saplings planted on the occasion of the World Environment Day will be carried out during the festival of Van Mahotsav in July and in November to verify the number of surviving saplings.
Highlighting the preparations for the mass tree plantations, he elaborated that schools from each of the 17 zones have been selected by the Education Department for the inaugural programme of tree plantation on June 5 .
The number of schools selected as per the district are 61 from Zone 1, Imphal West, 94 from Wangoi, Imphal West, 42 from Ukhrul, 15 from Senapati, 13 from Kamjong, 11 from Tamenglong, 40 from Chandel, 27 from Noney, 9 from Pherzawl, 17 from Churachandpur, 14 from Tengnoupal, 190 from Kakching, 28 from Kangpokpi.
Meanwhile, 99 schools have been selected from Zone II Imphal East, 28 from Thoubal, 20 from Bishnupur, 108 from Jiribam, 6 CBSE schools and 2015 Private schools.
On the other hand, over 80 colleges will be participating in the mass tree plantation of the World Environment Day out of which 35 are Government colleges, 10 are Government aided colleges and 35 Private colleges.
