Ukhrul, June 03 2015 :
, JUN 3 (HNS): Naga People's Front (NPF) has lashed out loud at the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam over his perpetual bickering about the party's alleged link with NSCN (IM) .
NPF Ukhrul Unit President Wungnaoshang said that his party is a political platform for the rights of the Nagas based firmly on democratic norms and principles.
Stating this in a press conference held at Viewland Wednesday evening, he asserted that the question of NPF colluding with NSCN (IM) could never arise because the Naga political party had been formed long before NSCN (IM) came into existence.
"He always says that NPF is a creation of NSCN (IM) but it is absurd.
NPF was born in 1963 well ahead of NSCN (IM) formation, " he contended.
Without mincing words, he then hit back at the deputy CM saying that this constant mud-slinging game is only indicative of the fact that peoples' support for the Congress led government in the State is fast waning.
Knowing this very well, Gaikhangam is indulging in this game only to prolong his political career, he jibed.
As regards allegations hurled by the Congress against NPF regarding the recent MHAADC polls, Wungnaoshang questioned as to why the State Government remained a mute spectator to a slew of poll related violence where NPF do not figure in the picture.
Citing untoward incidents of Mallon, Khambi and Patpung during recent MHAADC polls where public openly captured booths in favour of certain candidates, he asked whether the Government would remain silent or not if those incidents occurred in favour of NPF candidates.
The Congress has a knack of blaming NPF for booth capture but in fact things are happenings just the other way round, he said and pointed out that blaming NPF for any "bad things" is only a ploy to tarnish its growing image.
He also strongly condemned the high handedness of the 20 Assam Rifles in forcibly shutting down polling stations in Nambashi DCC at 2 pm on the pretext of public safety following the shootout at Ashang Khullen which is 20 km away.
"Such is a ploy of the government to deprive the public of their constitutional rights" he added.
