Protest over missing girls spread

Imphal, April 03 2013: Protest demonstrations were organized at two separate places in Imphal on Wednesday flaying the banned Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) for allegedly keeping Alice Kamei in captivity.

Alice Kamei aged 14, a class IX student of Grace Reach Academy, Hiyanglam in Thoubal district of Manipur, was reported missing since March 10 .

According to various Zeliangrong social organizations, she is now in the custody of RPF/PLA.

On Wednesday, sit-in-protests were held at Khuman Lampak and Namdunlong in Imphal West district demanding the outfit to release her safely at the earliest.

The demonstrations were organized by Gaipuinam Women's Society, Khuman Lampak and Namdunlong Women's Society under the aegis of All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur.

The protesters held placards that read like "Kidnapping is an Expression of Utter Hopelessness," "Stop Recruiting Child Soldiers" and "Terrorist Groups Use Child Soldiers" .

Several Zeliangrong social organizations had on March 27 imposed a 48-hour total blockade on National Highways in Zeliangrong dominated areas in Manipur as a mark of protest against the alleged abduction of Alice by RPF/PLA.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Organisation Research & Education (CoRE) in a statement has expressed serious concern over the alleged kidnapping and recruitment of two adolescent girls by the RPF/PLA.

It said the two minor girls were allegedly abducted by the outfit from their school boarding on March 10 .

CoRE said despite a series of protests and appeals by civil society organizations and student community for safe release of the two girls, no tangible action has been taken by the state Government and its agencies for the safety, security and integrity of the duo.

It further appealed to the RPF/PLA to immediately clarify the reported kidnapping of the duo who are students of Grace Reach Academy, Hiyanglam.
