Imphal, July 02 2015 :
Education Minister M Okendro told the State Assembly on Thursday the Government was putting efforts to introduce in the next Assembly session a 'Private School Regulation Bill' aimed at supervising and managing all private schools in the State.
The minister was responding to a calling attention motion moved by MLA L Ibomcha who said private schools are mushrooming in the State and emphasized the importance of monitoring them by the Government.
These schools are functioning under self-rule when it comes to fees, prices of uniforms and setting up their separate mode of administration, he said.
Ibomcha demanded that a suitable law must be framed to check wrongdoings by the private schools in the State.
The MLA claimed that these educational institutes are enticing the public with attractive advertisements in newspapers and electronic media.
He said the health of younger students studying in these schools has been put at a risk as school vans carry kids beyond capacity.
Minister Okendro cited his failure to introduce a Private School Regulation Bill in the ongoing session despite effort, but promised to introduce it in the next Assembly session.
It will become compulsory for all teachers of Government schools to get through TET from October this year, Okendro informed and added that TET could be obligatory for private school teachers, too.
The Minister meanwhile assured the House that the Government will soon make Class 12 Physics book error free.
Replying to a matter of public interest motion moved by MLA Th Shyamkumar, Okendro said the Government had discussed the matter in a recent meeting attended by representatives of Council of Higher Secondary Education (COHSEM) and several subject experts.
He said it has been revealed that some printing mistakes were detected in the Class 12 Physics book prescribed by COHSEM under the guidelines of NCERT.
It can be made error free after setting up a committee, he assured.
