Women Against Crime to take signature of all married women denouncing extramarital affairs

In the wake of women being accused of murdering husband, Organisation For Indian Women Against Crimes (Women Against Crime) is all set to gather signature of all married women in the State to curb extramarital affairs which lead to crimes.
Signature of married women declaring that they will never - indulge in extramarital affairs or bring shame to family members and sagei will be gathered, said a statement of WAC issued by its advisor S Sobita Devi today.
Married women will have to declare that they will uphold the sanctity of their marriage and put their signatures on papers.
To gather the signatures, awareness programmes will be held at all levels- village, community level along with CSOs, local clubs and Meira Paibis, said WAC.
The planned signature campaign aims at spreading awareness to women about various crimes that are being committed against/by women, added WAC.
The organisation has been fighting crime against women for years and will continue its fight to preserve the sanctity of woman, said WAC.
Meanwhile, taking note of rising crimes due to illicit relationship maintained by married men and women and the consequences it has on the society, All Manipur Women's Social Reformation an Development Samaj (AMWSRDS) has appealed the Government and authority concerned to enact a law that grant equal punishment to both men and women involve in extramarital affairs at the earliest.
Speaking to media person during a press meet held at its office at Lamphel, AMWSRDS's president, Th Ramani appealed for a strict law that punishes both the men and women equally in cases related extramarital affairs and adultery.
Ramani asserted that there should not be any room for discrimination based on sex while granting legal punishment to the culprits and appealed the State Government to urge the authority concerned and Central Government to enact law to curb crime that has surfaced recently in the State.
It may be mentioned that India has scrapped Adultery Law in 2018 .
Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code was a section which punished a man who has an affair with a woman "without the consent or connivance of" her husband, with up to five years in jail.
