State observes Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

As in other parts of the country, the State also observed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) at Parade Ground, 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion, Imphal.
October 31st is observed as the National Unity Day since 2014 across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh attended the function as the chief guest.
In his speech, Biswajit said that the day was observed in remembrance of Sardar Vallabhai Patel's role and contribution in unifying the country to promote National integration.

He said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the Statue of Unity to the people to commemorate Sardar Vallabhai Patel's contribution to the Nation and promote National integration.
The Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhai Patel is also often referred to as Patron Saint of India's Civil Servants for his contribution towards the modern All India Civil Services system, he added.
He also said that one of Sardar Vallabhai Patel's biggest contributions to the country is integration of over 500 princely States and provinces with India.
He also worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi during the Quit India Movement and Non-violence movement.
"All the communities residing in Manipur are brothers and sisters and we should live together in harmony without any differences on the basis of our caste, creed or colour," he said.
He continued that the present Government is trying to bridge the gap between the hills and the valley.
"We should follow the forgive and forget rule and work together to protect the unity, integrity and security of our State and country," he added.
Biswajit administered unity pledge to the participants and received the salute from the march past contingents.
Commandant of 5th India Reserve Battalion Sh Jugeshwor Sharma, MPS was the parade commander.
Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, MLAs, Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, DGP LM Khaute and other high ranking civil and police officers attended the function.
