Hathei Phanit, Chilli festival, celebrated in Ukhrul

The Sirarakhong Shanaolong (Women Society) celebrated the 2nd Hathei Phanit, Chilli Festival, at Sirarakhong village in Ukhrul district today.
The Chilli Festival, which was attended by hundreds of people from all walks of life, was graced by Presho Shimray, Senior Scientific officer as the chief guest.
AS Atem and Ringui Awunga were the guests of honour.
Speaking on the occasion Preso Shimray said that the educated youth today have no interest in farming and cultivation.
They are much more interested in white collar jobs.
He also appealed to the educated youth to apply their modern education in the agricultural field as well and to take keen interest in entrepreneurship.
He further came up with innovative ideas of exposing the unique quality of the indigenous chillies to the outside world through the internet so that the world knows the uniqueness of these chillies thereby attracting the attention of the outside world.
He also asserted that the festival will be organized in a different and bigger way from next year onwards, and will be organized at the district level too.
