Imphal, July 31 2019: The Roadside Vendors Welfare Association Khwairamband Keithel has warned against the formation and registration of a wholesaler's union.

Speaking to media persons at Old District Hospital complex, Temporary market, northern side, a member of the association Laikhuram Sashikala has conveyed that the association finds the news published in local dailies, on July 31, which stated that a union for wholesalers has been formed and urging not to interfere in the registration, as shocking.

It stated that the association has no clue of who comprises the union and which outsider has formed it as Roadside Vendors Welfare Association Khwairamband Keithel is the sole apex body in the Road side Vendors Welfare Association area, Sashikala said.

She added that no person is in authority to form any committee nor register it in the said area.

She urged all clubs, organisations and Govt authorities to investigate and examine the formation of a union against all the hardships and commitment of the time back.

Road side Vendors Welfare Association Khwairamband Keithel treasurer Khumukcham Ibetombi maintained that members of the association were shifted to the temporary market in 2011 and faced a number of hardships while dealing with the police personnel for a long time.

Initially, the place was used for parking and parking authorities often prevent the vendors from opening stalls or conducting their business.

After pressing the Government to provide a place for the vendors, the place was divided into a temporary market and a parking shed.

However, with the coming of the BJP Government, Minister Shyamkumar had approved the place for the vendors, she added.

She informed that Road side Vendors Welfare Association is affiliated to the All India Trade Union.

Ibetombi said that the association held a meeting on July 29 after learning that some individuals are attempting to form a union and unanimously decided to ban the formation of any union/committee at areas of Khwairamband Keithel which are under the jurisdiction of the association.
