Rajya Sabha panel reviews NeVA implementation in state

Imphal, April 30 2022: A team of Rajya Sabha Committee on Information and Communication Technology Management held a review meeting on the implementation of National eVidhan Application (NeVA) project in the Manipur Legislative Assembly along with a discussion session on the features of 'One Nation, One Application' programme of the Central government, on Saturday.

The team also had an interaction session with officials of state legislative assembly, ministry of parliamentary affairs, National Informatics Centre (NIC) and National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) .

PSC on ICT Management, Rajya Sabha chairman Tiruchi Shiva, Rajya Sabha MPs Rakesh Sinha, KR Suresh Reddy, Sujit Kumar and Neeraj Dangi are the members of the committee who visited the state on Saturday.

Rajya Sabha secretariat was represented by joint secretary Pradip Chaturvedi, deputy secretary Oindrila Roy and assistant executive officer Rashmi.

Manipur Legislative Assembly secretariat was represented by secretary K Meghajit, additional secretary Rohit Sapam, joint secretary G Tapankumar, director Raju Yanglem and deputy director N Robindro.

Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs was represented by under-secretary Mukesh Kumar and additional secretary Dr Satya Prakash.

According to PSC chairman Tiruchi Shiva, the purpose of the Committee is to promote and enhance the use of information and technology in the functioning of Rajya Sabha.

Increase in awareness of emerging technologies has proved to be beneficial in the functioning of Rajya Sabha, he added.

The chairman also informed the attendees that the Committee was constituted in 1997 and stated that the Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology along with other government agencies and the two Parliament Secretariats have started working towards development of a smart and digital Indian Parliament by implementing the 'one nation, one application' module.

He further informed that the Committee was looking forward to learn how the Manipur Legislative Assembly has developed digitally through the years and also get an understanding of the progress made regarding the NeVA project till date so that the Committee could assist and help the Manipur Assembly to become smarter and go digital.

Dr Satya Prakash said that National eVidhan Application (NeVA) was developed under the e-Vidhan Project, which is one of the 44 projects taken up under the Digital India Programme.

Easier access to information, easier process of application and circulation of notices and saving considerable amount of money that's being spent on papers are some of the advantages that would be brought about by the implementation of the project, he added.

He also informed that Nagaland is the first North Eastern state to successfully implement the NeVA project.

He spoke on physical workshop and virtual communications that have been going on with the Manipur Legislative Assembly officials in order to successfully implement the project in the near future.

Manipur Assembly is one of the 20 Houses that have signed the MoU and are now in the process of procuring the hardware products (devices).

Manipur Legislative Assembly secretary K Meghajit presented a brief report on the various steps taken up till date with regard to making Manipur Legislative Assembly to go paperless.
