Imphal, January 31 2017:
President of United Naga Council (UNC), Gaidon Kamei and its publicity secretary Shangkhel Stephen who are in judicial custody are permitted to attend the propose tripartite talk between the government of Manipur, Government of India and the UNC at North Block on February 3, by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East.
UNC president Gaidon Kamei and Publicity Secretary S Stephen were arrested from Pheidinga area Imphal West on November 25 last year and have been languishing in Manipur jail on as many as six cases filed at various cases.
Ministry of Home Affairs of the Union Government had sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of Manipur as to the General Secretary of UNC to attend the tripartite talk to end the prolong economic blockade being underway on both national highways of Manipur.
UNC has been demanding released of the two arrested leaders if talk has to be ensued.
Manipur government had earlier declined to give comment on whether the two UNC leaders will be allowed to attend the tripartite talk or not.
The granting of permission by the CJM Imphal East now assured that the UNC will surely attend the tripartite talk.
But it is too early to comment on whether an amicable solution will be able sorted out to end the economic blockade, as rolling back the government decision of creating 7 new revenue district will be a mockery to the constitution of India.
