In connection with the ongoing drive of Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) against drug abuse and alcohol, a public meeting on the impact of drug on society and role of public against narcotics and alcohol was held at the Social Welfare Club (SWC) community hall, Hiyanglam Makha Leikai yesterday.
The meeting was jointly organised by Hiyanglam Makha Leikai Meira Paibi, Social Welfare Club, Hiyanglam Makha Leikai and Coalition of Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) Kakching District Committee, conveyed a press release issued by Assistant secretary information and publicity of CADA.
CADA Kakching District Committee president Sorokhaibam Nena, OC, Hiyanglam police station Th Damu, Hiyanglam Gram Panchayat Pradhan Elangbam ongbi Shanti attended the meeting as presidium members among others.
Citing an example of an acid attack to one of the victims near Soibam Leikai Citizen Club by a drug abuser, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup president Yumlembam ongbi Mema stated that such inhumane crime against women happened mainly due to narcotics and substance abuse.
Numerous crimes can be eliminated/ eradicated if the quantity of people engaging in drugs and alcohol decreases, she asserted.
She also cited the trend of drinking alcohol during cremation and stated that such trend has only drawbacks.
OC, Th Damu asserted that 90 percent of the crimes committed always have a connection with drugs and lauded the prolonged initiative of CADA.
He also stated that CADA's movement in fighting against drugs and alcohol is commendable.
