Imphal, December 31 2012:
One 'discharged' cadre of Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has been allegedly killed by personnel of Assam Rifles in Tamenglong district last night.
In a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles, on 30 Dec 2012, based on specific input on movement of armed cadres in the general area of Lamdangmei and Sangji, security forces under Red Shield Division launched an operation in the area.
On Dec 31 at around 4 am, a group of armed persons opened fire on them on being challenged.
In retaliation, they returned fire and killed one cadre and recovered one Pistol of 0.22 Caliber with four live rounds, one fired case of 0.22mm and 14 fired cases of AK 47 from the site.
The UG was identified as Guangsingam Dangmei s/o Gaungbi Dangmei of Noney Bazaar.
Guangsingam joined NSCN (IM) in 2006 and obtained training at Buning Camp.
He deserted NP Bn of NSCN (IM) in 2011 and joined the ZUF.
He was operating under one SS Captain Abung of ZUF.
Contradicting the claim of Assam Rifles, ZUF today alleged that Guangsingam Dangmeowas picked up by the personnel the 10th Assam Rifles in civvies from Khumji village along with one civilian identified as Nanao Meitei presently residing at Noney bazar.
Both of them were taken to the Assam Rifles camp but Guangsingam was 'murdered in cold blood' while Nanao was released after interrogation.
The ZUF said Guangsingam was discharged on December 6 on medical ground.
The ZUF termed the act of the Assam Rifles as a gross violation of human rights.
It also appealed to all the right thinking organisations to condemn the act of the 10th Assam Rifles.
The ZUF pledged that it will not remain silent if the Assam Rifles go on in this way.
