As a major development in the police establishment, the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network system (CCTNS), created as a project of e-governance with funding from Union Ministry of Home Affairs, has been inaugurated by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at a function held at Imphal Police station here today.
Speaking at the inauguration of CCTNS, the Chief Minister exuded confidence that the network system would help tremendously in the performance of the state police.
The operation of CCTNS will bring more transparency in various police cases and facilitate the police in maintenance of law and order, he added.

With the new system, all data available at a police station will be equally accessible by any police station through information technology, the chief minister pointed out, while citing that the system will be operated in 23 stations including the Imphal District police station.
The network system will be subsequently made available phase-wise at 101 police stations in all districts along with 115 higher offices; O.Ibobi announced and stated that the state government is making arrangements to ensure 24 hour power supply for operating the system.
Among others, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, state DGP Sayed Ahmed, Principal Secretary (Tourism) Rajesh Kumar and high ranking police officers attended the inaugural function.
In the first phase, the CCTNS will be operational in 7 Police stations of Imphal west, 3 stations of Imphal east and 13 offices at sub-divisional Police levels.
The project taken up under the Union Home Ministry will enable sharing of data among the police stations of the country, between the Police Head Quarters and National Crime Records Bureau.
