Reacting to news reports published in some sections of media about outbreak of an unknown disease which reportedly killed a large number of cattle in some villages located within Purul sub-division of Senapati district, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Director S Joute has categorically stated that there is no outbreak of any mysterious disease or epidemic.
Speaking to media persons at his Sanjenthong office this evening, S Joute said that the report about the death of 300 cows and 200 buffaloes in Koide, Thingba Khullen, Purul and Oinam villagers was sheer exaggeration.
Rapid action teams have been sent to these villages.
Moreover, a team comprising of Principal Investigator Dr Ng Ibotombi, Pathologist Dr T Dorendro and District Veterinary Office, Senapati Joint Director Dr K Gopal went to those villages and interacted with the villagers.
Quoting reports submitted by rapid action teams, the Director said that 20 cows and 10 buffaloes died this month.
However, the villagers could not tell where the carcasses were buried when the officials asked them to give small parts of the carcasses for laboratory test.
Moreover, none of the villagers could say definitely where and when their cows or buffaloes died.
The rapid action teams did not come across any sick cattle, said the Director.
Nevertheless, Joute appealed to one and all to inform his office if there is outbreak of any disease or mysterious death of cattle.
He further assured cattle vaccination programmes would be launched at the four villages.
