Imphal Peace Museum wins India's Best Design Award

Imphal Peace Museum has won India's Best Design Award 2019 .
Suresh Huidrom, the architect of the museum and Haobam Joyremba, secretary of Manipur Tourism Forum received the award at a ceremony held at Conrad Hotel Hilton, Pune yesterday.
India's Best Design Award is first ever Global Design award from India, hosted by indi POOL.
Imphal Peace Museum is located at Maibam Lotpa Ching, Nambol.
It is a 6,500 sq ft gallery which houses WWII archaeological finds.

The architect of them museum, Suresh hails from Khurai Salanthong, Imphal East and is eldest son of Huidrom Iboyaima and Huidrom Ongbi Leibakleima.
He practised Interior Architecture for more than 15 years in Bangalore.
Suresh said the design of the museum took into consideration numerous factors such as functionality, scientific rigour, economic concerns, authenticity, and above all the 'collective character' of the people of the State.
Some of the interesting natural textures include the entrance wall where rice straw and mud clay are blended but care was taken to expose the patterns of unpolished woods.
To this was added a bamboo bridge in passageway.
Design was done with great care to reflect 'way of life during the Japan Lan (war) time,' he said.
"This Museum is a Chronicle of the heroism of the ordinary Manipuris.
Winning the IBDA Award is a great honour," Suresh said.
