SDC presses for issuing text books before session

Sustainable Development Centre (SDC) has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Education Minister urging them to provide the essential school materials entitled to students under the provisions of Right to Education Act, before commencement of the academic session.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, Inaobi Meetei, Secretary of SDC, informed that the Committee has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Education Minister highlighting a number of demands for the welfare of the student community in the State.
One of the main demands raised is ensuring the provisions of free study materials including text books entitled to students under the Right to Education Act before commencement of the academic session, he said.
Other demands highlighted in the memorandum include improving the condition of the schools in the State; ensuring safe drinking water in all schools; construction of separate toilets for girls and boys; appointment of required teachers where there is lack of staffs; to monitor efficiency of the teachers; implementation of an academic calendar in the State; to take up legal actions against private schools not following the RTE Act, etc, he disclosed.
