Foundation stone laid

The foundation stone laying ceremony of UNACCO School hostel Meitram, was held today as part of the 18th foundation day of UNACCO.
Education Minister Th Radheshyam Singh, Member of Parliament, Inner Manipur Lok Sabha Constituency, Dr RK Ranjan, MLA of 21 Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC Soibam Subhaschandra and Managing Director of UNACCO N Irabanta Singh attended the event as the chief guest, special guest of honour, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking at the event, Education Minister Th Radheshyam said that the quality of higher education in the State is lacking as around 300/400 students get admitted but only 30/40 go to school regularly.

This has resulted in no more than 6 percent of the students being able to get admission to the universities, he added.
The Minister opined that the young minds are very fresh and energetic ad they should be polished during this time so as to become innovative and creative.
Pointing out that DM University under RUSA has been able to provide admission to over 1000 students, the Education Minister said that infrastructures are being developed to facilitate the admission of more students.
He continued that the construction of an engineering college at Heirok has reached the halfway mark and added that 7 residential school are being constructed at minority areas at the costs of Rs 23 crore.
Stating that this year has the highest pass percentage in the Class X examination for the State, the Education Minister said that Rs 480 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose of building laboratories, libraries, computer rooms, training teachers of 401 schools of the State.
On the other hand, the Minister lauded UNACCO for contributing greatly to the field of education in the State and added that he can see the point of complete education in UNACCO.
If the relationship between the students and teachers are cultivated, then good students will be automatically produced, he opined, further stressing on the need for the teachers to be better as well.
Managing Director of UNACCO, N Irabanta Singh said that if the dreams set by UNACCO for the next 15 years is analysed, then today's achievement is a minor one.
He also stressed on the importance of increasing the income generated by tourism for Manipur.
