CM calls for joint effort in exerting pressure on Centre

Amidst escalating movement for implementation of Inner Line permit System in the State, Chief Minister O Ibobi today reiterated on the floor of the Assembly that implementation of ILP system lies in the hands of Central Government as it is a subject under the Union Concurrent List and called upon all including the political parties and the demand committee on ILP to co-operate with the government in exerting pressure on the Centre for implementation of ILP system in the State at the earliest.
Giving his statement on ILP issue in the House, Ibobi asserted that there is no such thing like neglecting the the issue of Inner Line Permit (ILP) by his Government.
The seriousness of his Government on the issue should be evident to all from passing of the resolutions in the Assembly on ILP implementation in January 2012 and July 2013 session.
Saying that many civil society organizations including women's organizations are staging various protests to demand for implementation of ILP, the CM expressed concern over students joining the protest by deviating from their studies even though the demand is legitimate.
Ibobi further said that his government is well aware of the rampant influx of non-locals in the State which has posed a serious threat to indigenous people and assured that his government will accept suggestions including from legal experts on the issue.
Maintaining that the government is all set to urge the Centre for implementation of ILP system in the State after August 15 as Parliament session is going on at present, the Chief Minister appealed to the representatives of all political parties in the State and the demand committee of ILP which is spearheading the current movement to be part of the government in exerting pressures on the Centre.
The Chief Minister also stated that his government has been trying to revive the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) which has been lying paralyzed following retirement of its Chairman and informed that request will be made to Chairman of Assam Human Rights Commission to take charge of MHRC till the Commission here finds its own competent Chairman.
