JPF transfers all money to Irom Sharmila, to start anti-AFSPA stir afresh

Just Peace Foundation (JPF) has transferred all the money and assets kept under its care to the social activist Irom Sharmila, who is on a fast for 13 years demanding repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers), Act, 1958 from Manipur.
On Wednesday, JPF transferred to Sharmila's account an amount of Rs 17, 13, 151, a balance kept in bank and all the assets meant for anti-AFSPA campaign and the organisation announced that it would not interfere with her personal life anymore except on the affair of the campaign, said K Anandi, managing trustee, JPF.
Anandi announced this during a function held at the Manipur Press Club here to mark the '16th anniversary of Supreme Court betrayal of the people of Manipur, North East and Kashmir' .
"We'll hand over the money and other assets to Sharmila.
And, JPF will launch a fresh anti-AFSPA campaign from today under zero balance," Anandi said.
She also sought help from the public in continuing the crusade against AFSPA.
The anniversary of the Supreme Court betrayal of the people of Manipur, North East and Kashmir is observed in Manipur every year under the aegis of JPF as a protest since 1997 after the Supreme Court of India upheld the constitutionality of the AFSPA in its judgment pronounced on November 27 the same year.
