Student union, MUCTA condemn mugging of Thang-ta lecturer

Manipur University of Culture Student Union has strongly condemned the mugging of Assistant Professor, Department of Thang-Ta, Manipur University of Culture, Yengkhom Sanjitkumar on his way back from home and also threatening/endangering him by blank firing.
The union made this statement during a sit in protest staged in front of the Manipur University of Culture gate, Konung Lampak today.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, vice president of the student union conveyed that the Assistant Professor encountered three unknown individuals on a Honda Activa while he was on his way home between Tejpur and Waiton at around 7.30 pm yesterday.

The Professor was forced to halt on the road and the three youths mugged him by taking his wallet, money, mobile and some documents that he was carrying, he narrated.
Meanwhile, one of the individual also blank fired to threaten the Professor.
Maintaining that Manipur University of Culture Student Union strongly condemn such act upon a lecturer who was heading home after carrying out his duty, the vice president of the union urged the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest.
He further stated that the student community will be compelled to launch stringent agitations if such threats and actions continue upon the teachers and students of the varsity in the future.
On the other hand, Manipur University of Culture Teachers Association (MUCTA) has strongly decried the mugging of Thang-Ta lecturer of the university Y Sanjitkumar.
A press release issued by secretary MUCTA maintained that it is rather fortunate for the university that the lecturer was not hurt during the assault.
It urged the authorities concerned to book the culprits at the earliest and take necessary actions to prevent such incidents from repeating in the future.
