Imphal, April 26 2015 :
National Sports University Construction Demand Committee (NSUCDC) has said the Manipur Government is planning to set up the sports varsity in farmland area which is an 'act of violation of law' .
A discussion programme on "Save Agricultural Land & Construct Sports University at Undisputed Site" was organized by the committee at Manipur Pres Club here on Sunday.
Delivering a speech during the discourse, NSUCDC vice president Nandalal Angomcha blamed the State Government saying that it has been planning to set up the proposed National Sports University in cultivable land area which is a move of blatant violation
of law.
He added that the Government does not want to construct the sports varsity in other fields where agricultural activities are not done.
Nandalal said the committee is upset over the attitude of the 60 legislators who are now allegedly tight-lipped over the issue for months.
"The Government is still very adamant in its decision to carry out the construction at Yaithibi Loukol, which is an arable land area," he rued.
The NSUCDC leader was surprised that the State Government has rejected Koutruk for setting up the sports varsity.
He claimed that expenditure of both the State and Centre will be significantly reduced if the construction is done in Koutruk unlike the jagged Yaithobi Loukol where around Rs 10 crore will be needed to raise the ground.
"A total of 500 acre of land area in Koutruk is offering to the Government for the sports varsity construction," he said.
